Built to be read by everyone.

artlust.co is a personal publication by Seema Rao. This page says what has been done to make it usable with a keyboard, a screen reader, or a zoomed-in phone, what still falls short, and how to tell me when something gets in your way.

Standard

The target is WCAG 2.2 at level AA. The site is hand-built static HTML, so fixes are quick to make.

What is in place

• A "Skip to content" link and a single main landmark on every page.
• One h1 per page and headings in order.
• The page language is declared. Text scales with browser zoom to 200% without sideways scrolling.
• Colour is never the only signal: links in running text are underlined or coloured yellow on the dark ground, which clears 4.5:1.
• Animations respect your operating system's reduce motion setting.
• Keyboard focus is visible on every link and button.

Known limitations

• The Substack subscribe box and any embedded posts are loaded from Substack and follow Substack's accessibility, not mine.
• Video lives on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook and Instagram. Captions are on for YouTube uploads; older short videos on other platforms may lack them.
• The archive page is a long list built by script. Screen readers get plain links, but there is no per-topic landmark yet.
• The press kit is a PDF and is not yet tagged for screen readers. Ask and I will send the text.

How it was checked

Automated checks with Lighthouse and axe-core on 9 September 2026, plus manual keyboard and zoom checks in Chrome and Safari. Automated tools miss things, so a report from you counts for more than a score.
